The GREATEST MOVIE MONSTERS
This March saw the release of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, the newest in the so-called “monsterverse” movie series, which is uniting and updating some of the biggest and scariest of cinema’s classic monsters. It’s Kong’s 10th appearance on the big screen – and the 38th for the Japanese mutant dinosaur Godzilla.

GODZILLA, GREATEST OF KAIJU
If you’re a fan of Japanese film and anime, you’ve probably noticed that huge, godlike, city-destroying monsters are a common theme. These giant creatures are known as kaiju, and the first and greatest is Gojira, known to most of the world as Godzilla. So why are these big beasts so important to Japanese popular culture? There were some similar creatures in old myths, but the kaiju were born from something else: the atom bombs that destroyed the cities of Nagasaki and Hiroshima in 1945. The bombs came from nowhere, bringing an unbelievable, never-before-seen kind of destruction and ending an era of Japanese history.
